In a world that is always changing, NSI experts offer insight on critical stories in the news. Please continue reading for their take on the most important breaking stories.

NSI Advisory Board member Leon Panetta on current geopolitical challenges and the implications of Russia’s confrontation with Ukraine.

“If that combination of courage and bravery on the part of Ukrainians plus the support of the United states and our allies- if that can come together and the result is a defeated or weakened Putin, I think that is a message that not only will go out to China, North Korea and Iran; but it can tell us a great deal about whether or not democracies in the 21st century can sustain themselves in a way that can give them the ability to strengthen and develop as opposed to autocracies.” Watch the full interview here.

NSI Advisory Board member General Jack Keane (ret.) on China’s military positioning in reaction to Speaker Pelosi’s recent visit to Taiwan.

“The reality is that Taiwan is in danger of losing their sovereignty. The most likely one is… some kind of quarantine or quasi-blockade, where you deny air and maritime access to Taiwan, letting selective access go through so the population isn’t starving and put huge pressure on Taiwan and its allies.” Watch the full interview here.

NSI Founder and Executive Director Jamil N. Jaffer on the future of Brittney Griner’s case in Russia.

“It does seem that the punishment she’s been subjected to does not fit the crime, and of course we know that she was taken prisoner and arrested in the week before the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Biden Administration has made it clear that it is their view that Brittney Griner is a political prisoner.” Watch the full interview here.

NSI Advisory Board member Paul Rosenzweig on the expensive effects on businesses breaking deals with China.

“Most companies would be very reluctant to consider a complete break with China.” Read the full article here.

NSI Advisory Board member Leon Panetta on the recent death of top al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahirir.

“I do think it completes a very important mission that we began on 9/11, which was to make sure we would go after those who were involved in the attack on 9/11…. It really does send a message that you don’t attack the United States and get away with it.” Read the full article here.
